Replacing a Citroen DS4
I am thinking about replacing my Citroen DS4 with something more conventional like a C4, Hyundai i30 or Peugeot 308. I drive about 12,000 a year with 15 miles to work and back with regular 120 miles trips to the midlands. Would I get away with another diesel? Or is there a petrol that hopes to compete with the power and motorway quietness of a diesel?

Get a Peugeot 308 1.2 Puretech 130 Active, like mine. 130 PS; 230Nm torque. Lots of equipment. All the performance you need. Romps up hills. 48.5mpg over 10,000 miles. Just drop the tyre pressures to 30PSI all round to get a bit of steering feel.
