How can I confirm that the seller of a car is the owner?

I am interested in a vehicle that is being sold by a part-time trader. The vehicle seems to stack up with all the history, HPI check and condition, but for some reason I am slightly wary of the trader. How can I prove that he actually owns the vehicle and is entitled to sell it?

He must have a receipt for it. He won't want to show you what he paid but he can show you the rest.
