What's the best long distant cruiser for £20k?

We have a 2007 Citroen C4 VTR+ HDi hatchback and cover about 15,000 miles a year. We need to replace it with a comfortable car with reasonable carrying volume and a max width of 2000mm to go into a narrow village street.

Automatic, cruise and speed control essential, and diesel preferred. What do you recommend to buy with a budget of £20,000. We're open to new or used.
