Should I get a new Mondeo diesel?
I have a 2.0 litre Mondeo diesel Powershift which is only doing around 6000 miles per year.I have never had a problem with the DPF over 33,000 miles of motoring.
I am looking to buy a new Mk5 Mondeo with either another 2.0 litre Powershift or the 1.5 litre petrol auto with its old fashioned torque converter gearbox.
As the real world MPG figures from Mondeo forums seem to be in the high 20’s with the petrol auto version, which I find quite shocking, would I be mad in buying another diesel and risking a DPF issue? The break-even mileage seems to be well under 30,000 miles, with savings of over £1700 on fuel with 35,000 miles of motoring.
Also the diesel only requires a service every two years, although the powershift gearbox does need a fluid and filter change at four years, which is another saving and the road tax is lower.
On the other hand the petrol version with smaller discounts is around £1000 cheaper to buy.
My other very big worry is when I come to sell it. My Mk3 petrol Mondeo was a nightmare to shift as buyers only wanted a diesel so I had to almost give it away.

You have personally proved that a Mondeo 2.0TDCI Powershift can be run for 33,000 miles without any trouble even at a low 6,000 miles a year, so there is no reason why the new models should not work as well for you. I disagree that the diesel only requires a service every 2 years.
It needs one at least every year or every 10k miles whichever comes first, but if you are moving the cars on at 4 years then you are handing any potential problems to owners further down the line. In 4 years time diesels will not be as easy to sell as they are now because of increasing restrictions against them, but the Mondeo will be EU6 so will not be banned from city centres.
