Replacing my 2005 Renault Clio on a limited budget - what would you do?

I am replacing my 2005 Renault clio and looking to buy a small but nippy car 2-3yrs old around £6000. I do a lot of motorway driving at weekends so I'm looking for the highest spec, most economical and good handling that I can get for the money. What would you recommend? Thank you!

I'd go for a Mazda 2 1.3TS2 or any of the special editions based on the 1.3TS2. The FIAT 500 1.2 and Ford Ka 1.2 are definitely not "nippy". I doubt you'll get even a Take Up! for £6k, but if you can they are good fun to drive, if a bit basic.
