Which hatchback is best - Golf or A3 Sportback?
I want to buy a new car and have narrowed my shortlist down to the Audi A3 Sportback SE and the Volkswagen Golf Match - both five-door, petrol 1.4 (manual). The Golf comes with all the extras I want, whereas with Audi they have to be specified, which will necessitate delay.
However, the Audi attracts cheaper RFL on account of only 117 CO2's; a relatvely recent reduction. I've read that the Golf is to get a facelift this year, prior to new model launch in 2017/18. Do you know when this face-lifted model is likely to become available and whether there may be a corresponding emissions adjustment?

You've put your finger on something strange. While the A3 and even the new Skoda Fabia have the latest EA211 90PS and 110PS 1.2TFSIs and the A3 has the 125 and 150PS 1.4TFSIs that are actually built by Skoda, the Golf VII is still listed with the older EA211 85PS and 105PS 1.2TFSIs and 122PS and 140PS 1.4TFSIs. Surprisingly, the Golf SV is listed with the older EA211 85PS 1.2TFSI, but the newer 110PS 1.2TFSI and 125 and 150PS 1.4TFSIs. There must be some kind of production/logistical problem causing this. But getting this sort of information of of VAG is as easy as winning the lottery.
