Need a used car for towing - should I buy a Mercedes?
I need a car capable of towing a fully laden trailer on camping trips, but want something relatively economical to fuel, tax and insure. I would also like to spend as little on repairs.
I currently own a 1998 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate and would have another Mercedes at the drop of a hat, but am worried about the quality of later models. I've been recommended an M-Class but they are all 3.2-litre in my price range, which makes them expensive to tax and insure. Would a newer C-Class or E-Class fit the bill or should I forget about Mercs altogether?

Mercedes quality hit its nadir between 1997 and 2003. After that, things gradually started to improve. W211 E Class best bought after the autumn 2006 facelift that brought a conventional braking system.
