Oil consumption problems with recently purchased Audi

Last week we bought a 2009 Audi A5 from a dealer. When we collected it the digital oil gauge registered as half full. Over the weekend we clocked up 100 (gentle) miles as we acclimatised ourselves to it and now the gauge reads empty (though no yellow light as yet).

We see online to our dismay that heavy oil consumption can be an issue with these vehicles. What advice would you offer and what can we do if the garage refuses to investigate?

Reject the car as "not of satisfactory quality" under Clegg v Olle Andersson, House of Lords, 2003. Fir it to be suffering such severe oil consumption it must have been faulty before you bought it. Many 1.8 and 2.0TFSI engines are. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
