Do I need winter tyres for my Land Rover Discovery?
We live three miles up a forest track and own a Land Rover Discovery 3 with 235/70R17 tyres. I want to fit winter tyres, preferably on steel wheels, but have been told Land Rover doesn’t make steel wheels for Discoveries. I have also been informed that Goodyear has discontinued winter tyres of this size.
I have been offered all-terrain tyres which are 5mm smaller in diameter (£400 all-round fitting) and I have also been offered Goodyear all weather tyres for £650. What do you suggest I fit?

I've seen Discoverys on both white and silver LandRover steel wheels. But you do need to stick to 235/70 R17s, which is a sensible size anyway. It's possible that www.tyremen.co.uk can fix you up with a set of affordable 17-inch steels or alloys and a decent set of cold weather tyres.
In the past Land Rover has favoured Pirelli, but there are lots of options including Michelin Latitude Alpin and Vredestein Wintracs. Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons are the best all weather tyres.
