Do all Citroen DS3s use oil at this rate?
I have just bought a diesel Citroen DS3. I've had it for seven weeks and done 5500 miles. The oil warning light came on and when I took it to the garage the service manager said that it is normal for new types of cars to burn oil to this extent. The car took over a litre of oil and was down to minimum - can this be right on a new model? My other new cars (a Qashqai and a Grand Vitara) didn't do this.
I then asked how much it would cost to buy a spare wheel as the garage I bought it from has never given me a straight answer. The DS3 was a showroom model and did not have a spare wheel, and the sales staff didn't really know whether there should be one or not. Now, as I understand it, the Citroen electronic spares catalogue won't let the garage order a spare wheel because when they input my registration details the system says I haven't got a spare wheel and hence can't order a new one! I'm told that it will take Citroen between three and six months to have an item on their spares catalogue to allow me to order a spare wheel.
The helpful Service Manager said that he would have to try and work out what the individual components might be. Seemingly this is a ruse to get the weight down and meet environmental standards. This is my first Citroen and I feel a bit miffed. Any comments or thoughts?

No way this engine normally uses so much oil in so few miles. It's the most common small diesel engine in the world fitted to everything from MINIs to Volvo S80s. I ran it in a Focus ECOnetic for 8000 miles with negligible oil consumption. But you have been busy. Maybe you've been revving it harder than I revved the ECOnetic. If you've been getting 55 - 60mpg you obviously haven't been. If you've been getting less than 50 I'm afraid you have. I got 44 from a DS3 1.6THP 150 petrol.
The spare wheel is an odd one, but it must match something else in the parts catalogue. Probably a spare for a C4. If it's a steel space saver you will need a different set of nuts from those used for the alloys.
