Unsightly wheel weights on new Qashqai

My husband recently purchased a new Nissan Qashqai Ntec+. The car was registered by the dealer prior to being seen and when he went to collect the car he found 13 wheel weights on both front wheels. We find the weights to give the car an unsatisfactory appearance, with a long line of unsightly silver wheel weights on black diamond cut alloy wheels.

Neither the garage nor Nissan are willing to change the wheels as they were balanced at the factory and they have been rechecked at the garage. Nissan state ‘that that the weights applied to the wheels on your vehicle are within tolerance and there is no manufacturing defect on your vehicle. You requested to know what the tolerance level is and I am currently trying to obtain this information’

Interesting that they know they are in tolerance but not know what the tolerance is! They are also not interested in the appearance of these unsightly weights on the wheels.

The car is still at the garage as this has been going on for the past two weeks, between the garage, Nissan customer service and the Nissan Finance company. We would welcome your views on this and whether you've heard of any other similar cases.

I would never have bought a Qashqai on ridiculous 19-inch wheels with 45 profile tyres that wreck the ride and make both the rims and the tyres vulnerable to damage. The sensible choice is 17-inch with 215/60 R17 tyres.

I would guess that the balance weights are working against each other and, if all of them were removed, someone proficient at balancing could re-balance the wheels with only a few weights.
