Where do I stand having been charged for 'free' extras?
My partner and I bought a new Dacia recently from a major dealer and were given (not offered) 'free' paint protection. We were not told what this was. I initially thought it was an insurance product but a bit of google work tells me it's probably a thirty quid bottle of stuff that apparently protects your paint.
We called the finance company up for a settlement figure today and it turned out that we had been charged hundreds of pounds for this service but the interest had been modified so that we didn't notice. I know that it's partially my fault for believing the salesman but is there any effective way of prising our money back out of the dealer?

Dacias need paint protection because of the poor quality of the paint applied to them in India. So this was actually beneficial to you and sensible of the dealer. I can't comment on the way the finance was calculated. I'd go through it again with the dealer, raising your suspicions. And if he can't put your mind at rest take the matter up with the Financial Services Ombudsman.
