Am I being ripped off?
I own a Peugeot 307cc, which broken down recently. The car was towed to a local garage, who told me it needed a new water pump and casing. They also said the engine was damaged, with nine out of 16 valves damaged. The repairs cost £980.
I've had the car returned, but it sounds the same and apparently there are seven new engine faults. Are they ripping me off and taking me for a fool?

You are not being taken for a fool. Your problem is that the engine failure is more catastrophic than first thought, which is why the attempted repair has not succeeded. The easy answer is a fully reconditioned engine.
