Which car to replace an old Jazz?

My sister-in-law had an older Ford Focus that was ultra reliable and would like something of a similar size, because the new Focus is a little larger and more expensive.

She is retired but does occasional nursing work on two/three days a week. These journeys are no longer than a 100 mile round trip. Otherwise the car will be used for local work, shopping etc.
She plans to keep the car for 5 years. She needs a new or nearly new car that is roomy, reliable and economic to run. Warranty, service intervals and associated costs are a factor to consider. Budget is £10,000 or a bit more.
