When's the best time to buy a car?
I need to change my 10 year old Vauxhall Vectra estate, which we love. I have a budget of £13,500 plus anything I can get for my Vectra. I am looking at either a 1.7 or 2.0-litre Astra Tourer. We do about 8000 a year with mostly local trips, but also drive 167 miles every few months to visit our daughter. Can you advise me please and is Christmas a good time to buy?

You're in a bit of luck because the Astra is up for a facelift, to make it look more like the Adam and the facelifted Corsa. So any old stock, pre-facelift, should be going cheap and by that I mean really cheap because the scope for discounts on Vauxhalls is huge. You might even be able to get one of the new 1.6CDTIs which is by far the best diesel under the bonnet of any Vauxhall.

Far better than previous Vectra. Now with decent handling and an excellent ride. Plenty of safety kit. Roomy in the front. Big boot. Good looks.
