Windscreen failures with Mazda CX-5
We have a late 2013 Mazda CX-5. Over the last four months we have had four windscreens replaced, with cracks up to four foot long. Dealer attributes failures to minuscule stone chips and cites minor chips to paintwork as supporting evidence.
We’ve asked Mazda to help us with the replacement costs, but they’re not interested. We are quite worried about catastrophic screen failure. Are SUV windscreens more prone to failure than other cars?

This happened to me with a Mazda 5 MPV. The edges of the glass are exposed and this makes it vulnerable to stone chips right on the edge that then start a stress crack right across the screen. No danger of "catastrophic screen failure". But Mazda may need to re-think how it protects the exposed edges of the screens.
