Mazda 6 engine problem

We bought a 2009 Mazda 6 in September 2013. It broke down recently, with complete engine failure. The cause is unknown, but the oil and filter are suspected and cost of repair is approx. £6000.

The garage we bought it from are not interested in helping and I know from the service report that they used a non-standard filter, but can't prove they used the wrong oil. A diesel engine which has done 43,000 miles should not need to be replaced. In addition, the fly wheel also is damaged. Do you think I should be able to get some sort of good will payment from Mazda or the sellers of the car?

Too late. You had six months, but this happened at least nine months after you bought the car.
