Discovered my Caddy has a damaged engine
A few months ago I bought a 2008 Volkswagen Caddy van. I soon realised that it had been sold with a damaged engine, but was unable to get the seller to respond to my emails and phone calls. There have been several problem and now the gearbox, clutch, dual mass flywheel and engine need replacing. I can only afford to have reconditioned parts fitted and am worried about how long they will last.

If this was a dealer then you have very strong consumer rights against him and can take legal action, preferably to recover the purchase price in full under Clegg v Olle Andersson, House of Lords, 2003: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/ If it was a private vendor, then all you can try is breach of contract, but much more difficult. Yes, next time you'll be safer leasing.
