Unfair parking ticket - should I fight it?

I have recently received a parking charge notice from a private car park claiming "payment not made in accordance with terms displayed on signage". We had paid the correct money for the time stated and displayed our ticket but the ticket was missing one number of our car's registration.

Do you think we can successfully appeal against this charge? Unfortunately we had already thrown away our ticket before we received this notice.

You have no evidence. If the charge is £40 or less, pay up.
