Fighting an insurance claim - what can I do?
I was involved in an accident when driving out of my drive. I pulled out and a car came around the corner and hit my front. We live on a rat-run notorious for cars speeding through the village. The insurance company (which is also the other driver's company) says that it my fault, despite the above circumstances. How do we resist that position?
Also I fear they will write-off my much beloved right year old Renault Clio for a derisory sum, when the damage is actually repairable. Can I insist on repairing it myself

The best you can hope for in this situation is 50/50, but the fact is you pulled out into the path of another car and a driver who does that is usually held to be at fault unless he can prove that he wasn't.
If you think the damage is repairable then ask the insurers to let you keep the car and give you write off value minus salvage value, then use that money to repair it.
