Will a stop/start system wear out the starter motor?

I have just bought a Ford Fiesta Zetec with a 1.0 petrol engine and 80PS. I am really happy with the car, but am concerned that the stop/start system will put excessive wear on the starter motor.

As we plan to keep car for five years is there any evidence of early starter motor failures or is it too soon?

None whatsover. If you use the car for repeated short runs from cold the stop start will not work anyway because you will not be putting enough back into the battery for it to work.
