Ford Mondeo DPF problem
The engine management light on my 2007 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI came on last week so I took it to an independent garage and they said the code indicated "DPF efficiency" and that they would try some additive. When I went to collect it they said the DPF was clogged.
I have done 90k miles in the 3.5 years since I bought it (now 123k) and I told them most of my journeys average 100 miles on the motorway or dual carriageway. Their response was that I need to thrash it occasionally to get it hot enough to prevent it from clogging. This is the first I have heard of this. Within a few miles of leaving the garage the light has come on again. Do you think the additive will work and is their advice to thrash it correct?

The DPF could be end of life. Not sure of this model had the PSA Eolys system or not. if it does it will have run out of Eolys. If not, adding Cataclean might help it to clear. You don't need to thrash it but you do need to keep it around 2000 rpm for around 125 minutes. If all fails and you can't get it cleaned by the Ceramex process, you need a new DPF.
