Which car has a low tailgate for easy loading of a wheelchair?
Unfortunately my wife now needs a wheelchair. We are both pensioners, although I work part-time as a community nurse driving 8000 miles a year. What is suitable car or estate with a low tailgate for wheelchair use? I would wish for economy and reliability. I looked briefly at Mazda and Astra estates but am open to suggestions. I could go to £11,000 tops, including part-exchange.

As long as you are not expecting to wheel the occupied wheelchair into a car, I think your best bet is a Honda Jazz. The reason is its 'magic' rear seat squabs that lift up, allowing you to store the folded wheelchair conveniently in the centre of the car. Same goes for the larger Honda Civic. Just do not go for an i-Shift version of either. If you need to wheel the occupied wheelchair into the car, then get a Citroen Berlingo Multispace or similar from www.brotherwood.com/ fitted with an electric ramp.
