Is there a good engine match for the Volkswagen MkVI Golf in the MkVII range?

I have a 2009 Mk VI Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI SE 110. It has over 70,000 miles on the clock and as I do a fairly high annual mileage I want to replace what has been an ideal car. I am looking at new or nearly new Golf Mk VII but I cannot seem to see an exact match in terms of engine size, power and equipment. What would you suggest?

It's between a 1.6TDI 105 and a 2.0TDI 140. The 2.0TDI 110 in the Mk VI barely lasted six months before it was replaced by the 1.6TDI 105. Owners report that, despite lower ‘official’ CO2 and better combined economy of the Mk VII 2.0TDIs, they are actually getting poorer economy than from their Mk VI 2.0TDIs.

Comfortable and quiet on the move, enjoyable to drive. Nicely trimmed with great attention to detail. 1.4 TSI sweeter to drive than a diesel.
Plenty of second-hand choice, excellent cabin quality, efficient petrol and diesel engines.
