Which small, 'green' car would you recommend for a working nurse?
I'm a community mental health nurse who does approximately 23,000 miles a year, mostly in journeys of 15 to 40 miles. A good chunk of this mileage is made up of my daily rural commute of 78 miles, but I also travel to see patients and to the inevitable meetings. Obviously miles per gallon is a major concern, but I'm also keen to be as green as I can. At present I have a Toyota Yaris 1.4 diesel. I find this good in terms of engine size and mpg. It's my second Yaris. I'm comfortable with it, but find it rather dull. I get a lease car through my work, and will be entitled to a new one in the near future, and am wondering whether there might be another car that might also suit me.

A Yaris 1.4 D-4D was your best choice when you got it. You could still think diesel. Even though the District Nurse Cycle is generally regarded as the most hostile to any car, yours involves greater distances and that is better for the engine and the DPF. But you could also think hybrid and go for a Yaris hybrid, from £15,000. Cars don't get any greener than that.
