Which family car has 4x4 and will accommodate three children?

I need to buy a family car that will accommodate three young children with proper full-sized seats. Seven seats would be nice but I am not comfortable driving a really big car. I was thinking of the Ford S Max or KIA Carens perhaps for the 7-year warranty. Which would be a better buy? We aim to keep this car and literally run it into the ground so something that will last the test of time. We are not massively high mileage drivers 10 - 12,000 miles a year is likely. Are there any good 4x4 options to get around in bad weather, I think the Volvo XC90 range might be too large though and out of budget. Looking to spend between £15,000 - £20,000 on a relatively new used car and open to suggestions.

The new KIA Carens 1.6GDI is within budget at £17,900 and comes with a 7-year warranty. Test and video demo: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/kia/kia-carens-201.../ Decent enough to drive, and smaller than an S-Max, which is Mondeo size. But Motorpoint has year old Galaxy 2.0TDCI Zetec for £15,699 and they represents better value for money. Put cold weather tyres on for the winter. Much more sensible and more effective than buying a 4x4.
