Would you recommend that we buy a Honda CR-V and another second car?
I have a 2007 Ford C-Max 1.6 110 diesel with 61,000 miles on the clock. My husband has a Ford Mondeo estate diesel 2.2 Titanium X with 60,000. We both now do about 6000 miles a year, a lot on short 4-10 mile journeys which we know isn't ideal for diesels with DPFs. Ideally, we would like one large family car and one reasonable sized second car (we often have teenagers and cricket bags to carry so at the moment both boots are good).
We have the option of buying a 2009 Honda CR-V 2.2 CTDI ES with 82,000 miles for £8500 from friends who are emigrating. We are wondering if this would be a good idea or not, given that it's four years old and high mileage. We could use that as our larger family car and look for something smaller with a petrol engine for the shorter round town trips. Would this be a good idea and if so what would you suggest as a high spec'd second car, probably a year old?

The CR-V 2.2iCTDI makes sense because the CTDI does not have a diesel particulate filter, which is the reason for avoiding diesels for short run use. For the second car, consider a new Dacia Sandero Stepway TCe 90 at £7995 with a five year warranty.

Roomy and versatile. Very comfortable, pleasant and relaxing to drive. not at all cumbersome. 2.2 i-CTDI diesel is excellent.
Unbelievably cheap for this size of car, generous interior space and a big boot, reasonably comfortable to drive.
