Run flat and ordinary tyres

With regard to a question posed by a BMW owner dated 29-7- 13, relating to a mixture of run flat tyres on the rear and ordinary tyres on the front, you advised that this would be an MOT failure, this is incorrect. I have e-mailed VOSA re this and have had this response.

Quote: As far as the MOT is concerned providing that the tyres on the same axel are of the same size, run flat tyres are considered to be the same structure type as a normal tyre, therefore there is no reason for failure under the MOT scheme. Hope this is now in agreement with you.

Keep up an entertaining column.

In that case VOSA better have a re-think before its policy kills people. To mix runflats and ordinary tyres is incredibly dangerous because if a TPMS warning goes off it is still safe to drive a car on runflats, but isn't on ordinary tyres that could rip themselves off the rim. Been there. Done that.
