Warranty company won't pay out - what can I do?

The ECU on my 2006 BMW 3 Series has failed due to water ingress caused by leaves blocking the drain holes. My warranty company has said the problem is not covered because they class water as a “foreign body” and it is this that has caused the problem.

I have read the small print and it has stated this, but surely as they have listed the part or any part the only way it will break down is if something stops it working 'cause and effect'?

Have you any suggestions on what I could do? I feel duped into buying warranty cover that won’t cover anything should it go wrong.

I agree with the warranty insurer. This is a maintenance issue. The damage was caused by the drains not being cleared. It was not a straightforward failure of the part.
