Buying a used Honda Civic - how do I get a good deal?

I'm interested in buying a used 2007-09 Honda Civic 1.8 i-vtec. Is now (January) a good time to buy and should I be going to a Honda Dealer, used car dealer or private to get the best deal?

Another reader recently bought a 2007 Honda Civic 1.8iES for £6500 from a Honda dealer. You'll do better at auction. But you missed low prices in December. It's now the new year and, as always, prices are already rising strongly.
