I need an all-wheel drive car for work as a GP

I am a GP and I work in the Chiltern area, around Goring and Woodco. We get snow that affects everyone getting around about 3 days a year however when it does snow we've got a large practice area to cover up to 200 square miles. It's fairly rural with big hills and some of our patients do not have any way to get to us and we end up going to them.

I used to have a four-wheel-drive which was fantastic but it broke down and was expensive to run for the last 4 years.

I have coped with a Vauxhall Zafira, a seven-seat which i need for family life and I have used snow tires on my Volvo C70 convertible which is a 2003 but low mileage.

I also have now written off my Vauxhall Zafira, so I am trying to work out what to replace it with my budget is between 8 and 10,000.

This will get me a fairly new Vauxhall Zafira which I could put snow tires on, or I could get a Hyundai Santa Fe with seven seats what is your advice?

Avoid Zafira 1.9 diesels. You will get a 2006-2009 Santa Fe but that had the inferior belt cam engine and 5 speed, not 6 speed, manual or automatic transmissions.

Sensibly, your best bet is a front drive car fitted with all weather tyres such as Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons. Something like a KIA cee'd or Hyundai i30 1.6CRDI SW.
