Electrical problem with Toyota Auris

My friend has a 2010 Touota Auris. When turning right or left all external indicator lights function as do the hazard lights when operated. However when signalling to turn left the dashboard signal display works intermittently. A right turn displays correctly. Any ideas?

Wiring short, but unless the unit with the warning lights in is easily detachable probably best left unfixed because getting at it might cost a fortune.

Decent combination of ride and handling that might suit some people better than a harder sprung Golf or a Civic. A few inches taller than a Golf of Focus so easier to get in and out.
