Porsche Cayenne diesel or Volkswagen Touareg TDI?
I want to buy a new SUV, but can’t decide between a 2010 Porsche Cayenne V6 diesel or 2011 Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI. The Cayenne is lovely inside, handles like a car and feels planted on the road, whereas the v8 TDI in the Touareg is laugh out loud fast and compelling in terms of value. The Cayenne will cost £45,000 and the Volkswagen £35,000 – which would you buy?

The Touareg 4.2 V8 diesel has huge power and torque (340PS and 800Nm), but EC economy of 31mpg will probably mean 20 - 25mpg in everyday use, whereas the 2.0V6TDI (same in Cayenne and Touareg) gets 38mpg in the EC tests so should do 30, maybe 35 everyday. The longer you keep the car, the more important that difference will become.
