Winter tyres for a Lexus IS?

I own a Lexus IS220d. I am trying to find the best possible winter tyres for my car, having suffered so many problems in the snow beginning of this year. I have young children and wanted your advice on best winter tyres to fit. Obviously cost is a factor but I do need control should it snow.

Two ways to look at this:

One is to buy a second set of wheels and fit them with full 'cold weather' tyres such as Vredestein Wintracs or Michelin Alpins, then fit the winter wheels to the car from November to March.

Suppliers of wheel and tyre sets: www.tyremen.co.uk and www.mytyres.co.uk

The other way is to fit all weather tyres such as Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons or Bridgesttone A001s and leave them on the car all year round. If your present tyres are already worn, then that would make the most sense.
