Need a smooth and practical car - any recommendations?
I have two year old Mercedes-Benz C-Class estate that I wish to replace. I have up to £40,000 to spend, but the car must have a smooth ride and lots of space, as my wife is disabled. Can you offer any guidance? At the moment I am tempted by the Mazda6 and Lexus GS.

A Mazda6 Skyactiv is excellent, but for smooth must be on 205/55 R17 tyres, so SEL-Nav Lux, not Sport. Well under £30,000. Not keen on latest Lexus GS. IS hybrid better. £40,000 also buys a 2.0 litre BMW 525d, but not a 530d. Always go for 16-inch or 17-inch tyres with the deepest profile for the best ride.
