Is the Peugeot 307 SW known for having dual mass flywheel and clutch problems?

We bought a 2003 Peugeot 307 SW in May 2004 via the Peugeot Direct scheme through the Peugeot dealership in Devizes. In June 2005 the car broke down due to a failure of the clutch and flywheel, which was replaced under warranty from our Peugeot dealership. The car has been serviced at the dealership and Peugeot parts have always been used, but on Monday 17 May 2010, the car was driven to the garage as the clutch seemed "odd" to me.

The mechanic took it out for a drive to establish the problem and, 500 metres from the garage, the car failed dramatically and was towed back. It was quickly realised that the clutch and flywheel had failed again. Is this acceptable? What are the statistics for failure of this type for this particular car? I am trying to ask these questions of Peugeot in Coventry via its call centre. The repair cost will be high so should we continue to pursue Peugeot?

The 307 is known to have problems with the dual mass flywheel and clutch: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/dual-mass-flywheels.

You should push Peugeot to at least split the cost with you, especially is it's always been serviced by a Peugeot dealer.

Makes sense of the 307. Up to seven forward-facing seats. Good to drive. Decent diesels.
