Trading in an accident damaged car - Am I liable?

I have recently traded a 2005 Renault Clio for a Ford Focus from the same year. After a few days running the Focus I noticed that it is leaking oil and overheating. I have tried to return the car, but the trader has refused to help because he has discovered the Clio was previously involved in an accident.

I accept I knew about the accident damage to the Clio and never mentioned it to the trader; however, it was stated on the documents which I presented at the time of sale. The dealer claims that I have signed a declaration that the trade-in was not written off and that it is me who will be in trouble if the issue goes to court.

Can you advise me as to what the consequences of trading in this vehicle might be? The Ford Focus is not running very well and I am not sure what my rights are.

If you misled the dealer and he can prove it you will be in big trouble. The only sensible way out of this mess is to undo the entire deal by returning the Focus and taking back the Clio.
