Faulty sensors on Ford Focus - how can I fix it?

I have a 2006 Ford Focus. A few months back the engine management light came on and my local garage said it was caused by the emissions sensor. However, I’m not sure this is true as the car passed its MoT fine, without any problems with engine emissions.

I’ve also noticed that the temperature gauge stays on zero unless I'm in traffic for at least 30mins then it goes to the halfway mark on the temp gauge. It will eventually return to zero again when driving, but heaters only blow out cool-warm air. Can you help?

Would suggest that you check that the thermostat is working correctly. Then check the ECT (engine coolant temp sensor).
