What's causing my Volvo S80 to emit black smoke?
I own a 2003 Volvo S80 D5, but the car has been emitting a lot of black smoke after warm up. I’ve replaced the pipes on the engine, swapped the EGR valve and checked both the manifold and injectors. So far I’ve spent £700 with a Volvo specialist and am no closer to fixing the car. Any ideas?

Well black smoke is due to the air to fuel ratio imbalance, either the fuel system is delivering to much fuel into the engine or there is not enough clean air (oxygen.
There could be many reasons for this:
1.Air filter blocked
2.Intake air system leaking/blocked
3.MAF ( mass air flow ) sensor
4 Turbo ( TC) boost pressure sensor-If fitted
5.TC wastegate
6.MAP ( Manifold absolute pressure ) sensor
7.IAT ( Intake Air Temp) sensor
8.ECT ( engine coolant temp ) sensor
9.Fuel rail Pressure ( sensor)
10.APP ( accelerator pedal position sensor)
As you can see rather a long list of things it could be.
You may want to ask the Volvo specialist, if they have checked any of the above for the £700.
