Air bag failure
My wife had an accident yesterday. Her 2011 Toyota Yaris struck a tree, flipped into the air and somersaulted across the road coming to a stop on top of a ditch. The car is a complete wreck, but miraculously she crawled out with only a few sore limbs: nothing broken.
The seatbelt seems to have saved her; however, on inspecting the vehicle afterwards, I noticed that the airbags failed to deploy and I was wondering just what force is needed to deploy them?
Surely there's a huge degree of responsibility resting on the manufacturers shoulders to ensure that these features "do exactly what they say on the tin". Should I contact a solicitor or car manufacturer?

Airbags are set off by triggers that detect certain forces. There are not and cannot be infallible. If the triggers were more sensitive they would go off every time you hit a road hump or pothole. (In fact Mercedes Benz did have that problem: of road humps half-triggering airbags.)
