Car damaged in supermarket car park – can I ask to see the store’s CCTV?
I've sustained a dent in the nearside front wing of my Dacia Duster, whilst it was parked in a supermarket car park. I asked the customer service personnel at the supermarket as to whether they had CCTV operating, but they told me they were not allowed to say due to the Data Protection Act.
the supermarket also said I would have to contact the police as they, the supermarket, were not allowed to show any CCTV to the public.
The damage to my vehicle will cost £430 to rectify and I want to find out who damaged my car with a view to possibly obtaining a small claims court. What do I need to do to get access to the supermarket’s CCTV footage?

You will have to apply to the court for an order to the supermarket to disclose any CCTV footage of the incident they may have. The police won't be of any help.
If you can get the reg off the offending vehicle from this, you can then use: www.gov.uk/request-information-from-dvla to obtain the name and address of the registered keeper and institute court proceeding against him using the CCTV evidence. Or simply invite him to pay up.
