Can you remove the DPF legally?

My neighbour's son recently bought, at reduced cost, an Audi A5 3.0 TDI with faulty EGR and DPF.

He claims he can have the DPF removed after the EGR is replaced, and having had the engine remapped it will be entirely legal and pass its MOT.

A company called Sinspeed advertise such a DPF removal service for this model, claiming that after their service the car will pass its MOT .

Nevertheless whenever you have replied on this issue in the past you have said it is illegal.

Is that still the legal position in all cases please, even when the engine is remapped?

It is illegal under EC law. But VOSA does not yet enforce that law in the UK. This does not mean that it won't. And retrofitting DPFs to an A5 3.0TDI will probably cost around £3,000.
