Burning smell under the bonnet of new car

I’ve brought a new Mercedes-Benz B-Class diesel. I have only driven it for a week and I have been getting an on and off burning smell under the bonnet, sometimes I can smell it via the air con. Occasionally I hear a grinding noise too when I accelerate. What could be wrong?

It's the diesel particulate filter regenerating. It gets very hot.
