Which Golf is best?

Is there likely to be much difference in reliability between an early Volkswagen Golf 2009/2010 1.2 TSI engine and the later 2011/2012 version?

Yes, there has been a re-shimming of the turbo and a software update to reduce hesitation from low revs.
