High pitched whine from clutch or gearbox
My Honda Accord saloon has started making a high pitched noise when I apply the throttle.
I’ve been told it could be:
- wheel bearing
- clutch bearing
- automatic gearbox
I don’t think it’s the bearing, as the noise vanishes when I take my foot off the accelerator, and I don’t think it’s the automatic ‘box either. Given the high mileage, is it more likely to be a clutch gearing?

Could also be the a/c pump, alternator or PAS pump.
