Oil light flickering on and off

The oil light is flickering on and off on my 2010 Ford Mondeo 2.0-litre diesel. I checked the dipstick and it shows no oil. Do you think this could have damaged the engine?

If the oil light is flickering that denotes a lack of oil pressure. May have damaged the bores or rings or the main bearings, or the oil pump.
