Need a car that can carry a wheelchair

Following a stroke, my husband now needs a wheelchair. We currently have a Volkswagen Golf MkIV, but I struggle to get his wheelchair into the luggage compartment. Would a new Golf be better, or should I opt for something much bigger such as a Touran.

Can you suggest any other cars that might suit us?

Better an MPV, such as a Touran or C-Max or Mazda 5, or Scenic, etc. But Both Honda Jazz and Honda Civics have lift up 'Magic' rear seat squabs, allowing a wheelchair to be carried in the centre of the car. Ok if two travelling. Not ok if you will be carrying more than one passenger.
