Tappet-like noise from the engine of a MINI?

My partner's 7000 mile Mini makes a noise that would have been regarded as tappets once-upon-a-time. Have you heard any reports as to problems?

These engines can suffer from a rattly timing chain tensioner. Good idea to have an early oil and filter change, which you will have to pay for separately if the car is on longlife tlc.
