Buying a replacement for RAV4 what would you recommend?

Our RAV4 has, after 10 years faithful service, probably just about come to the end of its useful life. We bought it with your recommendation and have always been grateful for that. We like the high seat, the space to transport dogs and much DIY equipment and, in many winters past, have been pleased to have had the all-wheel drive - particularly living in the Northumberland countryside.

Our annual mileage is now around 8000 miles a year and we're unsure whether we should opt for diesel or petrol. What would you now recommend as the best replacement for this much loved workhorse? Price is probably less important than reliability and annual road costs.

As long as you won't be doing any towing, go for the new RAV-4 2.0i Valvematic Multidrive S, and remember to order the optional space saver spare wheel.
