Could this 'surging' be from a sticky EGR valve?

I bought a Nissan Qashqai five weeks ago from a main dealer and have felt the car surging from time to time. I am told by a friend that it is probably a sticking EGR valve. The car is ex Motorbility and as it has done only 9000 miles in 20 months.

I was wondering if this usage may not have helped this situation? I am about to contact the dealer to rectify the problem.

Highly likely. Give it a treat of a fuel system cleaner added to the fuel, then fill up with Shell V-Power Nitro + and take it for a long drive. There is a chance that might help to clear it. If it has not had an oil and filter change for a year do that first.
